“Power lines and street lights, Leslieville”

I walk around the city a lot and I guess I find myself looking up at the mish mash of power lines, street lights, traffic signals and street signs everywhere… this urban imagery is not necessarily pretty but I find it very interesting and inspiring to paint.
Like many areas in Toronto, the neighborhood of Leslieville is undergoing changes. Originally a working-class area with many industrial buildings, several high-rise condos have recently gone up. This particular intersection of Dundas and Carlaw however shows one corner where you still see the remnants of its industrial past – low-rise row houses with a couple of prominent smokestacks. I presume this view will not be the same ten years from now.
